Introduction

        
Psalms chapter 140 from the Leningrad Codex (Codex Leningradensis, National Library of Russia, Firkovich EBP. I B 19a), copied in Cairo by Samuel ben Jacob and dated 1008/1009 AD, the oldest complete manuscript of the Hebrew Bible and the base text of the Biblia Hebraica editions. This chapter stands on folio 395r.
This entry meets the strict three-criteria standard of the Theosis Library:
  1. Manuscript scan: the specific folio side(s) carrying each section's verses, from the full-colour West Semitic Research Project photographs of the codex as redistributed on Internet Archive (item Leningrad_Codex_Color_Images, marked Creative Commons Public Domain Mark 1.0).   3. English translation: the King James Version (1611, public domain), retrieved verbatim from bolls.life (KJV text, Strong's numbers stripped).
Numbering: the Hebrew counts the superscription as verse 1; the KJV prints it as a heading, so Hebrew verse n = KJV verse n-1. The KJV heading is shown with verse 1.

8Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah. 9As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. 10Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again. 11Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him. 12I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor. 13Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
