1ακουε φηϲιν περι των μαρφων ων επιζητ̣ειϲ 2τη μεν πρωτη οραϲι διατι πρεϲβυτερα ωφθη ϲοι και επι καθεδρα καθημενη οτι το πνα ϋμων πρεϲβυτερον και ηδη μεμαραμμενο και μη εχον δυναμιν απο των μαλακιων υ̇μω και διψυχιων 3ωϲπερ γαρ οι πρεϲβυτεροι μηκαιτι εχοτεϲ ελπιδαν του ανανεωϲαι ουδε αλλο προϲδοκωϲιν ει μη την κοιμηϲιν αυτων ουτω και ϋμειϲ μαλακιϲθεντεϲ απο των βιωτικων πραγματων παρεδωκατε εαυτουϲ ειϲ ταϲ ακηδιαϲ κ(αι) ουκ αιπεριψατε εαυτων ταϲ μεριμναϲ επι τον κν αλλα εθαυμϲθη τ̣ων η διανοια και επαλεωθηε τεϲ λυπαιϲ υμων 4διατι ουν εν καθεδρα εκαθητο ηθελον γνωνε κε οτι παϲ αϲθενηϲ ειϲ καθεδραν καθεζεται δια την αϲθενιαν αυτου ϊνα ϲυνκρατηθη η αϲθενια του ϲωματοϲ αυτου εχιϲ τον τυπον τηϲ οραϲεωϲ

1Listen," saith he, "concerning the three forms, of which thou enquirest. 2In the first vision wherefore did she appear to thee an aged woman and seated on a chair? Because your spirit was aged, and already decayed, and had no power by reason of your infirmities and acts of double-mindedness. 3For as aged people, having no longer hope of renewing their youth, expect nothing else but to fall asleep, so ye also, being weakened with the affairs of this world gave yourselves over to repining, and cast not your cares on the Lord; but your spirit was broken, and ye were aged by your sorrows." 4"Wherefore then she was seated on a chair, I would fain know, Sir." "Because every weak person sits on a chair by reason of his weakness, that the weakness of his body may be supported.
